African-American Minority Scholarship 

The annual scholarship competition is open to area high school seniors (please see the included counties below) of African American or African diaspora culture. Scholarship recipients will be awarded a one-time scholarship to help with college expenses.

Eligible applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • GPA of 3.0 or higher

  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities (church, school, community service)

  • Resident of Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Gaston, Union, Lincoln, York/Union, SC counties

  • Entering  a 4 year college or university as a freshman in the Fall of 2025

Submit all REQUIRED DOCUMENTS listed below. Partial applications will be disqualified.

  1. Completed Application

  2. One-page typed essay following one of the writing prompts provided

  3. An official transcript, listing class rank and GPA

  4. Copy of acceptance letter from the institution the student plans to attend (if available)

  5. Please submit a digital photo. The photo must be submitted in one of these file formats: .jpj, .gif, or .png (Senior photo is highly suggested)

 * Recipients who are selected will provide proof of attending a four-year college or university may receive a one-time scholarship of up to $5,000 scholarship. Application packets MUST be submitted ELECTRONICALLY by Tuesday, April 15, 2025.
